  • Petaluma pays tribute to American Graffiti

Petaluma pays tribute to George Lucas' film “American Graffiti” with Salute to American Graffiti, an event featuring classic cars, cruises, music, food and activities for the family. The weekend kicks off with an American Graffiti Cruise-in and Social from 4 to 8 p.m. May 18 in the Petaluma Plaza and Plaza North shopping centers on North McDowell Boulevard.

Salute to American Graffiti's all-day main event is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 19 in downtown Petaluma. The downtown classic car cruise is from 4 to 9 p.m.

The event also means there will be several road closures beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 19.

Roads closed include Petaluma Boulevard North between Washington and C Streets; Fourth/Kentucky Street between Washington and B Streets; Western Avenue between Keller and Walter Streets; and Water and B Street between Second and Fourth Streets. Public transit routes will be detoured to Keller Street and service will be available at the Transit Mall.

In addition, there will be road closures for The Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Foundation's fundraising bike ride from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

Riders will head south on North McDowell Boulevard, turn west onto Corona Road and head for courses on the back roads of Southern Sonoma County. At noon, riders will return via Railroad Avenue to Old Redwood Highway.
